The Croatian authorities on Friday evicted more than 200 people after the blaze swept through pine forests on the Adriatic island of Brac.

The state rescue service reported that dozens of firefighters were trying on Friday to contain the flames that have destroyed hundreds of acres of forest and farmland.
State television reported that the plumes of smoke could be seen from the coastal town of Split. Tourists and residents in danger were evacuated on Thursday night to other parts of the island.
